“Este é o primeiro programa de grande envergadura que vai construir milhares de Sanitários familiares, desde a independência de Moçambique, pelo que se exige do empreiteiro profissionalismo, por forma a entregar os sanitários às famílias em tempo útil e com a qualidade desejada” recomendou Raúl Mutevuie Júnior, Director Nacional de Abastecimento de Água e Saneamento, após a assinatura do Contracto.
Mutevuie Júnior, destacou ainda a necessidade do cumprimento de salvaguardas sociais e ambientais, uma vez que as obras vão decorrer no seio das famílias. As obras serão executadas pelas empresas China Jiangxi e Mango Tree Construction, e a supervisão estará ao cargo da empresa Lochan. A implementação e monitoria das actividades será feita em conjunto com o Serviço Municipal de Saneamento de Tete.
A fase de instalação de estaleiros, mobilização de pessoal e equipamentos está prevista para meados de Janeiro e as obras de construção de sanitários dos agregados familiares deverão iniciar nos finais de Fevereiro.
A construção dos sanitários é parte das actividades do Projecto de Saneamento Urbano (PSU), uma iniciativa do Governo de Moçambique, com apoio do Banco Mundial, que tem como o objectivo aumentar o acesso ao saneamento com gestão segura e fortalecer a capacidade dos Municípios na prestação de serviços de saneamento.
Para além da construção de infraestruturas de saneamento familiar, o PSU prevê ainda a construção e/ou reabilitação de Estações de Tratamento de Águas Residuais e de Lamas Fecais, redes de esgoto, aquisição de equipamentos para provisão do serviço de saneamento pelos municípios, reforma legal do sector, capacitação, entre outras actividades.
