O Governo de Moçambique e os Estados Unidos da América fecharam, em Setembro deste ano, o acordo de financiamento, que consiste na disponibilização de 537 milhões de dólares, através do Millennium Challenge Corporation. A verba visa desenvolver a província da Zambézia, investindo em várias áreas, com destaque para a agricultura, transporte rural e infra-estruturas.
Na divulgação do projecto, na segunda-feira, o Ministério da Economia e Finanças, através do vice-ministro, Amílcar Tivane, avançou que está em processo a selecção de membros que farão parte do Conselho de Administração do projecto, na implementação.
“Integrarão o Conselho de Administração do Gabinete de Desenvolvimento do Compacto II, além de seis ministros, dois representantes da sociedade civil, dois representantes do sector privado, o governador da província da Zambézia e todos os sectores-chave”, avançou Tivane.
A implementação do projecto ainda vai levar algum tempo, embora o valor esteja disponível.
“Como sabeis, há projectos complexos. Como aqui foi mencionado, a ponte que vai ser construída sobre o rio Licungo numa extensão de 1,8 quilómetros e a respectiva entrada são projectos de engenharia que exigem meticulosos estudos técnicos e uma componente muito importante, que não podemos descorar, que é o reassentamento da população”, disse.
A Embaixada dos Estados Unidos da América reiterou a necessidade de se usar o valor do investimento com transparência.
O governador da província da Zambézia, Pio Matos, apelou à participação de mais instituições na implementação do projecto do Millennium Challenge Corporation.
