IIAM “intensifica os mecanismos para que os laboratórios veterinários nacionais possam ter certificação internacional”
INTEGRITY-MOÇAMBIQUE, 15 de dezembro de 2023-Decorreu na quinta-feira (14.12) nas instalações da Direcção de Ciências Animais do Instituto de Investigação Agrária de Moçambique (IIAM), na Cidade de Maputo a entrega de diversos equipamentos de laboratório veterinários que vai aumentar a capacidade do sistema nacional de vigilância das componentes de Resistência Antimicrobiana (RAM) e permitirá maior biossegurança com vista a protecção da saúde pública. O equipamento foi financiado pela USAID através de uma parceria entre o IIAM e o Fundo Mundial de Alimentação (FAO).
Diante da imprensa e dos participantes, Zélia Menete, Directora Geral do IIAM explicou que o equipamento recebido chegava num momento crucial em que a Instituição que dirige “trabalha arduamente para que os laboratórios nacionais tenham uma certificação internacional, uma situação que tem constituído um grande desafio há anos”. Menete avançou que o material de laboratório é fruto de uma parceria que perdura há sensivelmente 30 anos e vai permitir que a questão da biossegurança veterinária nos laboratórios nacionais melhore substancialmente.
A Directora Geral do IIAM entende que “um dos grandes desafios também será a manutenção do equipamento, mas que a Instituição que dirige e juntamente com os parceiros farão de tudo para que este aspecto seja constantemente respeitado.” Zélia Menete disse que “o IIAM pretende reestruturar-se para que possa ter mais espaços de actuação e consequentemente passe a comercializar alguns produtos para o seu desenvolvimento institucional e logicamente para o País.” A dirigente revelou que a Instituição vai abrir-se mais para o público, em especial para o cidadão que deve se beneficiar directamente dos produtos fornecidos por aquela primordial organização governamental.

Apesar dos recursos pretendidos para o seu funcionamento pleno estarem escassos dado a conjectura económica nacional e internacional, o que faz com que a Instituição esteja a perder quadros altamente formados cientificamente para as grandes corporações, Zélia Menete afirmou que continuarão a fazer de tudo para que haja recursos para o melhoramento das infraestruturas e na formação contínua do pessoal do IIAM.
Falando na ocasião, Otília Tamele Tomo, Directora Técnica da DCD da Direcção de Ciências Animais, “tudo começou no contexto do programa GHSA (Global Health Security Agenda), financiado pela USAID, o projecto FAO-ECTAD, concretamente nas componentes de Resistência Antimicrobiana, Sistema Nacional de Laboratórios usando a ferramenta desenvolvida pela FAO: ATLASS para proceder com a avaliação do Sistema de Vigilância RAM no Laboratório, LMT para o Mapeamento de Laboratório e LMT-S para o Mapeamento de Laboratório -Módulo de Biossegurança.”
Intervindo no evento, Dário Cipolla, Representante da FAO em Moçambique disse que “os laboratórios de diagnóstico e investigação veterinária são componentes essenciais na detecção e prevenção de doenças animais e, indirectamente, na protecção da saúde pública.” Cipolla avançou que “a ECTAD da FAO está a reforçar o sistema laboratorial nacional através do sistema eficiente de encaminhamento e transporte de amostras para diagnóstico e vigilância de doenças infecciosas.”
Acrescentando, Dário Cipolla defendeu que “a reabilitação das infraestruturas laboratoriais do DCA melhorará o diagnóstico de doenças animais, incluindo a resistência antimicrobiana (RAM) e as zoonoses. A melhoria e actualização da capacidade de diagnóstico e investigação de doenças são componentes fundamentais para a definição de medidas de controlo adequadas. A capacidade de fornecer diagnósticos e dados epidemiológicos bons, rápidos e fiáveis será de grande apoio aos serviços de saúde e veterinários e aos decisores no controlo de doenças que ameaçam vidas humanas e a produção pecuária, reduzindo assim os custos de tais intervenções.”
