O Governo sul-africano assumiu tratar-se de sabotagem económica e decidiu envolver militares na garantia da segurança aos camionistas que circulam em quatro províncias que fazem fronteira com Moçambique. Conforme consta num comunicado publicado na página oficial das Forças Armadas sul-africana, “as Forças de Defesa Nacional da África do Sul confirmam o seu destacamento em apoio ao Serviço da Polícia da África do Sul, nomeadamente em quatro províncias: Limpopo, Mpumalanga, Kwa-Zulu Natal e a Província de Free State”.
As autoridades sul-africanas não sabem se os ataques a camiões estão conectados entre si, pois ocorreram em várias partes do País. O Ministro da Polícia, Bheki Cele, avançou que as operações são organizadas e sofisticadas. No entanto, o fenómeno está a gerar receio nos moçambicanos que se dedicam ao negócio de transporte de carga entre Moçambique e África do Sul, por temerem que os seus camiões sejam alvos de ataques.
