A polícia suspeita que os indivíduos pretendiam com recurso a pistola realizar mais uma acção criminal das tantas outras que vem sendo protagonizadas na região sul de Moçambique, e logo depois refugiam-se na África de Sul, onde se camuflam em empresários e produtores musicais.
Portanto, os dois indivíduos refutam as acusações que pesam sobre eles.
O suposto produtor musical disse que vinha à Manica para tratamento tradicional, uma vez que não tem tido sucesso no trabalho que executa, e que encontrou com o alegado empresário no autocarro onde seguiam viagem e tornaram-se amigos pelo que não sabe nada da arma de fogo.
Já o empresário assume a pertença ilegal da arma, tendo dito que foi-lhe oferecido por um sobrinho seu para garantir a segurança pessoal, porque tem sido vítima de assaltos na República de África de Sul, sempre que levanta dinheiro no banco para pagar salários aos seus colaboradores.
De acordo com o Porta-voz do Comando Provincial da Polícia da República de Moçambique ( PRM) em Manica, Mateus Mindú, a detenção dos indivíduos insere-se no esforço da corporação em travar a circulação ilegal de armas de fogo pela província.
“Vejam que há dias desmantelamos um arsenal e logo de seguida neutralizamos dois indivíduos e apreendemos uma pistola, e hoje estes dois indivíduos, isso quer dizer que estamos a trabalhar para acabar com as armas em mãos alheias”, afirmou Mateus Mindú, para quem a corporação visa declarar tolerância zero à criminalidade organizada em Manica.
