A Mota-Engil fechou novos contratos na região de África num valor total de cerca de 650 milhões de euros. Entre os acordos celebrados, a construtora destaca um relativo à movimentação de terras na Guiné-Conacri, com a Rio Tinto Iron Ore Atlantic Ltd, no valor de cerca de 280 milhões de euros.
Segundo a informação enviada à CMVM, a empresa liderada por Carlos Mota Santos assinou ainda na Nigéria, com o Federal Ministry of Works and Housing, dois contratos de concessão de duas autoestradas com uma duração de 25 anos. O contrato foi fechado através de um consórcio formado pela Mota-Engil (49%) e pela AFC – Africa Finance Corporation (51%).
Ainda no continente africano, de acordo com a mesma nota publicada esta segunda-feira, a construtora portuguesa adjudicou outros contratos de menor dimensão em Angola, Moçambique, Ruanda e Costa do Marfim, num total de cerca de 130 milhões de euros, informou em comunicado.
Relativamente ao contrato com a Rio Tinto na Guiné-Conacri, a Mota-Engil esclarece que este “está associado ao projeto Simandou, o qual se encontra localizado na região sul da Guiné, a aproximadamente 650 km de Conacri”. Os trabalhos incluem a “movimentação de terras inicial para estabelecimento de acessos e para as futuras instalações industriais de uma mina, bem como bacias de sedimentação, vazadouros e a implementação de medidas de controlo de erosão”. O início do projeto está previsto para setembro de 2023 e deverá durar 30 meses, acrescenta.
Já na Nigéria, o contrato de concessão das duas autoestradas compreende as ligações “Lagos – Badagry – Seme” e “Shagamu – Benin”, com uma extensão de 79 km e 258 km respetivamente. Estas vias ligam “a cidade de Lagos ao centro e sudoeste do país, assim como, a cidade de Lagos à fronteira do Benim”, informa a construtora portuguesa. A Mota-Engil refere ainda que os contratos de concessão prevêem “a conversão de duas actuais estradas em autoestradas, bem como o desenho, financiamento, construção / reabilitação, operação e manutenção das mesmas”, num investimento inicial que irá rondar os 240 milhões de euros (ou cerca de 260 milhões de dólares).
A construtora portuguesa garante que, com estas adjudicações, o grupo “continua a reforçar a sua carteira de encomendas no continente africano com contratos relevantes de médio prazo”, bem como a reforçar a sua presença em “mercados core e na área concessional”.
Há três semanas o grupo português tinha anunciado o fecho de novos contratos em vários países da América Latina, como o Brasil, México e Peru, no valor de 890 milhões de euros. O objetivo dos contratos, esclareceu na altura, era “alargar, em dimensão e rentabilidade, a presença nesses mercados”, estando incluído um contrato para serviços de manutenção offshore no Brasil com um consórcio detido, maioritariamente, pela Petrobras.
O grupo Mota-Engil obteve um lucro de 41 milhões de euros em 2022, o que representa um aumento de 69% face ao período homólogo, segundo números divulgados em março. A influenciar estes resultados esteve um período marcado pelo crescimento de 47% da atividade, elevando a faturação para um “patamar inédito” de 3,8 mil milhões de euros, um valor que só estava previsto ser alcançado “no Plano Estratégico em vigor apenas em 2026”.
