De acordo com a agência France-Presse (AFP) citando Charles Kamau, responsável pelas investigações em curso no sub-condado de Malindi, foram feitas mais escavações para encontrar outras vítimas, uma vez que há relatos da existência de uma vala comum. De acordo com a AFP, vários seguidores daquela seita estão escondidos na floresta de Shakahola, tendo sido encontrada há dias uma mulher ainda com vida, “com os olhos esbugalhados e que se recusou a comer” antes de ser encaminhada para uma ambulância.
A Direcção de Investigações Criminais acredita que estas pessoas pertenciam a uma seita religiosa conhecida como Igreja Internacional das Boas Notícias, liderada pelo pastor Paul Mackenzie Nthenge, que se entregou às autoridades policiais quenianas, que será acusado de encorajar os seus seguidores, que podem ser centenas de pessoas de todo o país, a jejuarem até morrer, com o objectivo de encontrar Jesus.
De referir que durante as buscas na floresta acima citada, foram resgatados e hospitalizados 11 seguidores do pastor com as idades compreendidas entre os 17 a 49 anos. (INTEGRITY)
