Penn Institute for Urban Research (Penn IUR) anunciou no dia 21 de Abril de 2023, os vencedores do Prêmio de Liderança Urbana Lawrence C. Nussdorf de 2023, que reconhece os líderes que estão orientando as cidades em direcção a um desenvolvimento sustentável e equitativo. Para o presente ano, quatro líderes urbanos pioneiros de todo o mundo foram honrados.
Os premiados de 2023 são Steve Adler, Ex-Perfeito de Austin; Manuel A. Alculete Lopes de Araújo, Presidente do Conselho Autárquico de Quelimane em Moçambique; Eleni (Lenio) Myrivili, da Global Chief Heat Officer, UN Habitat & Arsht-Rock, e Chief Heat Officer, Atenas, Grécia; e Sheela Patel, Directora Fundadora da Sociedade para a Promoção dos Centros de Recursos de Área (SPARC).
A Penn IUR, homenageou o trabalho desses líderes excepcionais em 21 de Abril de 2023 em seu 18º Fórum Anual de Liderança Urbana, intitulado Accelerating Urban Climate Soluções para Todos.
Manuel A. Alculete Lopes de Araújo, Presidente do Conselho Municipal da Cidade de Quelimane, Moçambique ocupa o cargo desde 2011, num extenso mandato, que o autarca chegou depois de ter colhido experiências na sociedade civil, academia’s, negócios e política.
Manuel de Araújo é profundamente envolvido na defesa de questões ligadas à mobilidade activa e clima. Também desempenha um papel fundamental dentro de instituições como United Cities e Local Governos (CGLU), bem como ICLEI-Governos Locais para a Sustentabilidade, onde é membro do Global Executive Committee e Global Co-Chair para Resiliência.
Em 2019, Araújo foi eleito Vice-Presidente do Conselho Nacional Do Congresso da Associação de Autarcas de Moçambique (ANAMM). Ele também serve como um Membro do Comitê Executivo do Parlamento Global de Perfeitos e um Membro Executivo do Pacto de Perfeitos para a África Subsaariana. (INTEGRITY)
